Deputy Group Scout Leader

To assist, and deputise for, the Group Scout Leader to manage and support the Scout Group and its Leaders to ensure it runs effectively and that Scouting within the Group develops in accordance with the rules and policies of The Scout Association.

The Person

The Deputy Group Scout Leader will ideally have experience of managing volunteers, or teams of adults, however training will be available for the enthusiastic and committed individual who undertakes this role

  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Build, maintain and facilitate effective working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Ability to negotiate compromises
  • Construct and implement long-term plans that improve and grow the Group and identify any training, resources and other needs required to undertake this work
  • Enable others to identify issues, clarify objectives, develop attainable objectives and gain the necessary skills and confidence to work as an effective team

The Training

Mandatory – Getting Started (5 Months)

Scouting has a core set of training that Trustees will need to undertake:

  • Module 1 – Essential Information
  • General Data Protection Regulations
  • Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Trustee Induction, whilst you may not be Group Trustee (optional) it’s useful to complete this training as part of your role
  • Personal Learning Plan
Mandatory – Wood Badge (3 Years)

Mandatory – Management Training (3 Years)

Tools for the Role

Your role will require you to use the following software packages, if you have no experience in those packages, we will support you in gaining those skills:

  • Online Scout Manager (Youth Management Software)
  • Compass (Adult Management Software)
  • Office365 (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel)

If you have previous scouting experience, or previous management experience from your day job, then some training may be validated against your pior experience.
